The Vienna Philharmonic orchestra was first established in 1842 and is regarded as one of the most illustrious in the world. It has since given birth to some of the finest composers and greatest musical talents in the world. Naturally, in 1989 when the Austrian law changed to permit the issue of gold coins for investment purposes, the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra was chosen as an internationally recognised symbol of Austria.
The 1/10 oz coin is the smallest weight denomination in the series and thus makes a perfect gift option or purchase for novice investors and collectors. The coin is designed by the Austrian Mints head engraver, Thomas Pesendorfer and features some of the signature instruments played in the orchestra as well as the Great Organ of the Musikverein Concert Hall in Vienna.
