The Krugerrand coin was first released in 1967 by the Rand Refinery along with the South African Mint. It has since become an international best seller amongst collectors and investors alike. The coins name comes from a mix of the local South African currency, the Rand, and ex-South African president Paul Kruger (1983-1900). The Krugerrand coins’ design has not changed much throughout the years. It features a portrait of Kruger designed by Otto Schultz on its obverse and the native Springbok antelope on its reverse.
The new Krugerrand Gold coin contains 1 oz of pure 916.7/1000 22 carat gold. It carries a hint of red tint due to its 8.33% bronze components. The popular coin can also be used as legal tender. Due to the economic stability of gold, this coin is an excellent investment diversification tool.
