With the 2016 edition the Kangaroos celebrate their 30th anniversary. The bullion coin has been minted since 1986. In the first three years, a nugget was depicted on the obverse of the coin instead of the marsupial. This explains the former official name of the coin: Australian Nugget, which was used until 2008.
It is available in units of 0.5 g, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 1 oz and 1kg. Whereby with the last the Perth Mint aims at private collectors and institutional exhibitors rather than investors. Nevertheless, the coins are also freely available in this weight and are minted in an unlimited edition. Since 2016 the Silver Kangaroos have been minted by the Perth Mint. Before they were only available from the Royal Australian Mint. Both Silver Kangaroos are official means of payment in Australia, and embossed with a value of one Australian dollar. And it doesn't matter whether you prefer gold or silver, you can always receive the Kangaroos of the Perth Mint in their freshly minted quality.
