The Britannia, on the reverse of the coin, has been designed by Philip Nathan and is portrayed as equally strong and beautiful. The female warrior, the national personification of Britain, is holding a trident in her right arm and a shield bearing the Union Jack with her left hand. As the viewer changes their perspective the trident becomes a padlock, emphasising the coin’s secure nature.
One of the oldest symbols of Britain, Britannia stands proud before the ocean and is surrounded by inscriptions bearing her name, year of mintage, weight and purity.

Obverse side
On the obverse of the coin, we can of course find the classic design of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. In this now familiar design, Her Majesty is wearing her diadem crown and the royal jewels. The inscription above her head “Elizabeth2, D.G, REG F.D are the initials for a Latin phrase which translates to “By the grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith followed by 100 POUNDS.
Of course, we now know that it will be the last portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on the 8th of September the 8th 2022 in Balmoral Castle. This makes this coin even more special!
