Vienna Philharmonic Silver 1 oz Coin

Vienna is famous around the world for being the city of music and this beautiful Philharmonic silver coin is an homage to its famous orchestra and concert hall.

The 2023 coin celebrates the 16th year for the Silver Vienna Philharmonic coin series. When the Austrian Mint first issued Vienna Philharmonic coins in silver, it was the first time that a silver bullion coin had been brought on to the European market with silver of 99.9% purity. We’d long been waiting for a product of these characteristics and within a month of the date of issue, the millionth coin was struck - cementing its popularity.

The Austrian Mint, one of the oldest Mint in Europe, has captured the grandeur of Vienna’s Musikverein concert hall. The coin’s obverse depicts the famous Great Organ of the Golden Hall. The original organ was built by Friedrich Ladegast in 1872 and is a result of many influences from his travels around Europe. The organ has had several makeovers and renovations since and continues to look magnificent. The Words REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH are shown above the instrument with the coin’s weight, silver purity, denomination and year of mintage “2023” engraved below.

Both sides of this coin were designed by Thomas Pesendorfer, the Austrian Mint’s chief engraver. It was created by Pesendorfer at the beginning of his career. Pesendorfer’s iconic Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra design has been used in several different metals and many denominations, two of which have won COTY (“coin of the year”) awards; a feat that remains unparalleled. Pesendorfer originally went to the Fachschule für Metalldesign in Steyr to become a sculptor, however, he discovered his vocation was in metal design and was eventually advised to join the Austrian Mint, a Mecca for Austrian engravers

For the reverse, Pesendorfer chose to present eight characteristic orchestral instruments: four violins either side of a cello in the foreground and the Viennese horn, the bassoon and the harp behind. The inscription "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER" stands in a semicircle.

Fabricated in 99.9% pure silver, each 1.5 euros coin weighs 1 troy ounce or 31.07 grams. Today, these legal-tender coins are among the top-selling bullion coins in Europe!

Whether you are a lover of classical music, an eager music enthusiast or a silver collector, the 2023 Austria Philharmonic One-Ounce Silver Coin is definitely for you! Secure your copy today on StoneX Bullion!
