Issued by the China Gold Coin Corporation for the People's Republic of China, the 2018, the Silver China Panda is minted from 30 grams of .999 pure silver although the coin's weight and purity haven't been part of its design since 2015. This is more than made up for by the coin's overall quality and unique reverse design.
The first China Pandas were issued from 1983 to 1985. These 1oz proof coins were struck from .900 silver and only 10,000 were issued each year. No silver China Pandas were issued in 1986 and in 1987 the coin's silver content increased to .925 – the only sterling silver China Panda coins ever to be issued. From 1989, 1oz China Silver Pandas were struck from .999 silver and with a new reverse design for each year apart from 2002 coins which had the same design as the previous year. 2016 heralded the start of a new era for China Silver Panda coins when they were issued in grams according to the metric system for the first time.
