1/4 oz Vienna Philharmonic Gold Coin (2020)
In 1989, a change in Austrian law permitted the issue of gold coins for investment purposes. It was at this time that the first gold Vienna Philharmonic coin was released. Although multiple themes for the coin were originally discussed, it came to be that music and most importantly this famous orchestra would be the keystone marker for these coins. Designed by the Austrian Mints head coin engraver, Thomas Pesendorfer, the coin features important aspects of the Philharmonic on both its obverse and reverse sides.
The new 1/4 oz Philharmonic Gold Coin is composed of 1/4 troy ounce of pure .9999 24 carat gold and has a face value of 25 euros. Since the coin's first release, it has gone on to sell millions every year.
