The exciting 2017 Gold Sovereign

The new 2017 Gold Sovereign celebrates 200 years of its iconic St. George and the Dragon design with the addition of a '200' mark on the lower left portion of the coin's reverse. The striking St. George image was created by engraver Benedetto Pistrucci in 1816 when the government asked the Royal Mint to issue new coinage designs in order to re-stabilise British currency after the Napoleonic Wars. Pistrucci's depiction of St. George 'in the Greek style' was an instant hit when the first 'new' sovereigns were released in 1817.

The Gold Sovereign is one of the world's most recognisable coins and one of the most popular with investors. It was named for the King and the first coin appeared over 500 years ago in 1489. Gold Sovereigns have been used as British currency ever since and, during the 19th century, the coin was valid in over 20 countries. The 2017 Gold Sovereign features the same magnificent George and the Dragon design that has captivated collectors and investors for two centuries. Beautiful coin

I have over 150 Full Sovereigns including 6 of this one year only Coins it is a beautiful coin. In total my British Gold coin collection is more than 500 in total. I also have the very first Piedfort Sovereign, I was lucky enough to buy 10. I have kept 6 and sold the other 4 for a very nice profit of £400 per coin. Not a bad return on a investment that was only 4 days old.
