1/25 oz Vienna Philharmonic Gold Coin | 2023

The fifth size in the Vienna Philharmonic gold family is the smallest member and was issued in 2014 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the first Vienna Philharmonic coin. The 2023 version minted from pure gold with a fineness of 999.9 / 1000 is now available on StoneX Bullion!

The Vienna Philharmonic has been so successful since its creation in 1998 that it was decided that the design would not change. According to the World Gold Council, it was the best selling gold coin in the world in 1992, 1995, 1996 and 2000. One way of visualising the success of the Vienna Philharmonic gold coin is to imagine that if all the coins ever sold were piled on top of each other, they would surpass the 8,850 metres of Mount Everest! Mind blowing!

The coin was designed by Thomas Pesendorfer, the Austrian Mint’s chief engraver. At the time, a new law in Austria permitted the issue of pure gold coins for investment purposes and it was decided that the Austrian Mint would create a coin to celebrate and symbolise Austria. Numerous themes were discussed but there was clearly one winner: music. Indeed, music is a language understood throughout the world and the history between Austria and music is one of a kind. So many famous composers are Austrian and so many have performed at the famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra!

For the reverse side,Thomas Pesenforfer chose to depict eight characteristic orchestral instruments: four violins either side of a cello in the foreground and the Viennese horn, the bassoon and the harp behind. The inscription "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER" stands in a semicircle.

The obverse side features the famous pipe organ from the Goldener Saal of the Viennese Musikverein.. The Musikverein is also known as the Golden Concert Hall and is the venue where the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performs when it is in the capital city of Austria. The original organ was built by Friedrich Ladegast in 1872 and is a result of many influences from his travels around Europe. The organ has had several makeovers and renovations since and continues to look magnificent.

Here, we can also find the engraved name of the state "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH"; the coin denomination value of “4 Euro”, fully backed by the Austrian government and the coin mintage year “2023”together with the purity.

In some markets the coin has attained such popularity that it is often made into jewellery. (handy with its small size 13 mm x 1mm) Its attractive price makes it accessible for all budgets. Secure yours today on StoneX Bullion! It will make a wonderful gift and a great investment.
