The Kangaroo series is back with a bang! Like every year, the design presented on the reverse of the gold Kangaroo coin has been changed and as usual, it is a beautiful one.
The Perth Mint, founded in 1899,has now become one of the most respected mint in the world with globally acclaimed products. They not only have amazing skills from their long running experience but are now using modern techniques allowing them to produce outstanding coins.
The Kangaroo 1/2 oz 2023, their latest release, is certainly a perfect example of the expertise shown by the Perth Mint. A micro-engraved letter which can be seen only with a microscope or magnifying glass has been added since last year, and this additional security is certainly reassuring for all the investors. The Australian coin contains .9999 fine gold and weighs 1/2 troy ounce. Its weight and purity are guaranteed by the Australian government.
So what’s on the reverse?
A Kangaroo of course! Originally, the design depicted an Australian gold nugget but in 1989, it was changed to feature the widely recognised symbol of Australia.The kangaroo is an iconic representation of the fascinating wildlife inhabiting Australia and has become the national symbol of Australia on and off the coin.
The reverse of this coin portrays an adult kangaroo looking over its shoulder with a eucalyptus and grass trees in the background. The beautiful design was created by Ing Ing Jong who did also get involved in the Lunar series amongst other beautiful creations.
Right next to the shrubbery, the official mint mark of the Perth Mint ("P") can be seen. The legend shows the name of the coin, the year of issue, the fine weight (1 ounce) and the fineness (9999 gold).
And how about the obverse? pretty special too
The obverse of the coin features the Late Queen Elizabeth II, who sadly passed away in September 2022 just after celebrating the 70th anniversary of her reign. The design has been created by Jody Clark and chosen in 2015 through a competition commissioned by the United Kingdom’s Royal Mint Advisory Committee.It features the Queen aged 89. In this now familiar design, the Queen is wearing her diadem crown and the royal jewels and the drawing is so detailed that you can even see the lines in Her Majesty’s face.The Perth Mint decided to pay homage to the Queen and celebrate her amazing life serving her subjects by adding the dates of her reign on the coin: 1952-2022
Around the effigy of the Queen stands the writing of ELIZABETH II and AUSTRALIA and below her image is 50 Dollars, the monetary denomination.
For years, this Kangaroo ½ oz gold coin has been loved for its purity and amazing design by investors worldwide. The 2023 does not disappoint and presents a special tribute to Queen Elizabeth II who was admired by many. It is the last time she will appear on an Australian coin as she will be replaced by a portrait of her son and successor King Charles III.
