2014 Britannia Privy Mark Horse Gold Coins

Britannia gold coins are a popular choice among investors, and with the 2014 privy horse, the Royal Mint includes new features that increase the security of these precious metal coins. It is the first time the Royal Mint has included a privy mark on a gold coin and follows on from the success of the 2013 silver Britannia which featured a snake privy mark in honour of the Chinese New Year. 2014, the year of the horse, continues the theme. Boasting a 99.99% purity and a limited mintage of 10,000 coins, the 2014 Britannia privy horse 1oz gold coin represents an excellent investment opportunity.

Why buy the 2015 Gold Britannia Coin

Not only is the Britannia gold coin one of the best investment coin on the bullion market, the 2014 edition includes a unique privy mark which heightens security and appeal. The coin is made from .9999 pure gold, the highest fineness in Brilliant Circulated gold coins which brings it in line with other leading gold coins on the modern market. The only coin to better four 9's are commemorative versions of the Canadian Maple Leaf which boasts five 9's. Britannia coins carry a face value of 100 British pounds, although in the current economic climate are worth much more, and promise to increase in value over time. The image of Britannia is an historical symbol which dates back to the Romans and is the female representation of Great Britain. Investors in the UK also have the benefit of free tax on Capital Gains earned from the sale of Britannia bullion coins.

Design of Britannia Privy Horse Coins

The 2014 edition of the Britannia privy horse gold coin is practically identical to the standard 2014 gold Britannia edition other than the unique security feature engraved into the edge. The reverse side shows the figure of Britannia looking out across the ocean, her dress billowing in the wind. She holds a trident with an outstretched right arm, whilst in her left she grips a shield with the Union Jack emblazoned on the front. Engraved across the top edge is BRITANNIA 2014 999.9 FINE GOLD. On the front is the profile of Queen Elizabeth II portrayed by Ian Rank-Broadley together with the coins face value of 100 pounds along the bottom rim. The coins uniqueness however, is distinguished by the privy mark of a horse, inspired by the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Eight impressions of a galloping horse are carved into the edge of the coin.

History of Britannia coins

Britannia gold coins have a long and illustrious history that dates back to the Romans. The goddess of war had featured on Roman coins before, but was dedicated to the British Isles during the invasion of Emperor Hadrian in 119 AD. The modern depiction of Britannia was first launched in 1987 and featured Philip Nathan's depiction of the goddess in a protective stance. Britannia is a symbol of Britain's power, prestige and freedom. The original coins were 22-karat gold and contained 91.7% pure gold. Given the advancements in the manufacturing of gold coins however, the Royal Mint improved their minting techniques in 2013 and produced Britannia coins with a gold purity of 99.99% - bringing this illustrious coin in line with industry standards.

The privy mark was included in special edition coins for 2014 and followed the success of the privy snake mark that had been trialed the previous year on the 1oz silver Britannia coins. The privy horse is the first time a privy mark has been included on a gold coin produced by the Royal Mint.

Security of Britannia Privy Horse coins

The Royal Mint strives to improve their security techniques and the unique privy horse is another step to ensuring their products cannot be fraudulently copied. The Britannia 2014 gold privy horse is manufactured to the highest industry standards using the latest techniques and technologies which are impossible to replicate without being detected by expert inspectors like those at StoneX Bullion.
