For the nod to the Chinese Lunar Calendar
Originating in China millennia ago, each new year is celebrated based on the lunar cycle of time, unlike the Western calendar. Known in China as ‘shengxiao’ (shenz-yaw), the Chinese lunar new year's follow a repeating cycle of 12 years, with each year represented by a specific animal and its special attributes: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

For the super cute design
One side of the bar shows the front view of a rabbit. He is holding a carrot which he seems to have stolen from a basket full of vegetables next to him. The vegetables have been spilled on the grass and two little butterflies are fluttering above the basket. Here, the only inscription is the word “rabbit” written in Chinese symbols
The other side of the bar presents the back view of the scene with the rabbit. We can see the back of the rabbit and the vegetables scattered around: melon, cabbage, carrots. Next to the rabbit are the butterflies and above the butterflies, the Pamp Suisse’s stamp. On this side, the inscriptions are also 5 g Gold and the purity 999.9 together with an individual serial number at the bottom of the image. This really is a charming design capturing the essence of the rabbit: skillful, ingenious, naughty and terribly cute.
