The Royal Canadian Mint have released the ‘Creatures of the North’ series. Set to have two releases per year, the 2 oz Kraken Silver Coin is the first!
The Kraken was first reported in Canada in the early 1700s. In 1871, the beaches of Northeast Newfoundland became home to a washed up 56 foot long giant squid - stoking the fires of the legend of the Kraken.
The reverse depicts an impressive image of a kraken attacking a ship, tearing it apart with its massive tentacles. The coin also features the Royal Canadian Mint’s microengraving, minted to the left of the kraken. The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II’s famous portrait.
The Kraken Silver Coin is minted by the Royal Canadian Mint using two troy ounces of silver with a purity of .9999
