African Ounce coins are produced to the highest standards and the Rwanda Cape Buffalo is no exception. The coins contain a 99.9% fineness which is the highest purity for silver coins and because they feature a unique design each year have numismatic value which appeals to collectors.

Furthermore, these coins are only produced once a year to keep the mintage low – making them rare and even more highly sought after. Design of the African Buffalo Silver Coin

The Rwanda silver series are distinguished by their design and the 1oz 2015 edition features the horned African Buffalo standing in a field with a calf by her side. In the background is the huge continent of Africa. The words AFRICAN OUNCE, which the coins are sometimes referred as appears on the upper left of the coin whilst on the upper right the 2015 date is display. Beneath the date in the lower right corner is confirmation the coins weigh 1oz and are made for 999 FINE SILVER. The obverse side of the coin depicts Rwanda's official seal which was redesigned in 2001. At the bottom of the seal are the Kinyarwanda words UBUMWE-UMURIMO-IGIHUGU which translates to English as Unity, Work, Patriotism. Along the upper rim are the words BANKI NKURU Y'U RWANDA indicating the coins are issued and backed by the Bank of Rwanda. Along the bottom are the words AMAFARANGA, MIRONGO ITANU indicating the money is legal tender in Rwanda.

I'm a huge fan of the Rwanda African Ounce series. They are just very well done pieces and I really like the map of Africa on the reverse. That said, I can't say the buffalo is the most icon coin in the series, but it is still a handsome coin that was well done and is sure to appreciate quickly in the years to come. Great coin, highly recommended.

Can't believe that these aren't as popular as other series. Nice designs and low mintages - I believe. Great addition to any collection.
