This beautiful silver coin presented by the Perth Mint will delight both young and old, both investors and collectors.
Why? Because of its design! Each coin portrays a charming image of a tiger cub following its proud and protective parent across a rocky terrain featuring ferns and bamboo. The adult tiger is in the lead, showing the way to its young cub and this is a touching image. This reverse is entirely new and has been designed by artist Jennifer McKenna. The design includes the inscription ‘TIGER 2022’, the Chinese character for ‘tiger’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
You should also purchase this coin because the Lunar series is the most popular series from the Perth Mint. First issued in 1995 and now in its third round, the long-running Australian Lunar Coin Series celebrates the animals of the ancient Chinese lunar zodiac with a sequence of annual designs portraying the mouse, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. The year of the Tiger release comes in 2022. The tiger is said to be courageous, brave, and ferocious but here we see a more gentle side of the animal represented with its cub.
As for the obverse, we now know that it will be the last portrait on coins of the late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The portrait was created by Jody Clark in 2015 when the Queen was 89 years old. Turning to the left , the Queen is wearing her royal crown, a necklace and beautiful matching earrings. The attention to details (her hair, neckline, crowns) is astonishing. It is a beautiful tribute to this amazing Monarch who reigned for 70 years, dedicated her life to her subjects and died on the 8th September 2022.

The coin’s high relief reverse and obverse are minted on concave surfaces to ensure the optimum flow of metal is achieved by the strike of the die.The reverse also features an additional security element: a micro engraved mark.
So if you were born in 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, and every 12th preceding year, (year of the Tiger) you are said to be natural leaders blessed with courage, charm, and confidence. This coin will be a lovely present for someone born in those years or 2022. It will also be a way of remembering the late Queen Elizabeth featured on the obverse of the coin.
And remember, gold and silver are investments which will never be lost!
