The 2019 1 oz UK Lunar Year of the Pig Gold Coin

StoneX Bullion is delighted to present the 2019 1 oz Lunar Year of the Pig gold coin. The sixth in the Royal Mint's stunning Shēngxiào Collection, this beautiful bullion coin combines impeccable British craftsmanship with the age-old traditions of China.

The UK Lunar or Shēngxiào Collection

The Royal Mint's highly-acclaimed Lunar collection takes its name from the Chinese Zodiac, or Sheng Xiao, an ancient calendar developed around a twelve-year cycle. Each twelve-year period is represented by an animal sign: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.

Although this exceptional coin is the sixth in the Shēngxiào collection, it represents the twelfth and final sign of the Chinese Zodiac. The 2019 Year of the Pig runs from 5 February 2019 until 24 January 2020 when the cycle will restart with the Year of the Rat. People born under the sign of the Pig are gentle, loyal and generous, and previous Pig years include 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995 and 2007.

Introducing the 1 oz 2019 UK Lunar Year of the Pig gold coin

The Shēngxiào Collection is inspired by the twelve creatures of the Chinese zodiac, yet each coin has an element of "Britishness". For 2019, artist Harry Brockway has created a wonderful reverse design against a background of undulating radiating lines that acts as an extra security measure. A suckling pig and her piglets lie in the foreground as smoke curls from the roof of a country farmhouse. The house is set among rolling meadows and trees and the moon and stars sparkle overhead. It’s a beautiful rural scene that represents an idyllic version of pastoral Britain while the pig and her offspring symbolise family, unity, loyalty and generosity. The reverse carries the fifth coinage portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.

Why choose the Year of the Pig UK Lunar 1 oz Gold Coin?

Each of these exquisite bullion coins is struck from one troy ounce of fine .9999 pure gold and only 8,888 will be issued worldwide. Eight is the luckiest number in Chinese culture and is also said to bring luck to those born in the Year of the Pig. And, like all British legal tender, the 2019 1 oz Lunar UK Year of the Pig gold coin is VAT free and exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT).
