1/4 oz Lunar II Monkey | Gold | 2016

The Perth Mint created the Lunar series II to celebrate the Chinese zodiac with a coin series to represent each animal. The Chinese Zodiac is based on the lunar calendar and assigns an animal and its reputed attributes to each year in a repeating 12-year cycle. This 12-year cycle is an approximation to the 11.85-year orbital period of Jupiter. 2016 celebrates the ‘Year of the Monkey’. Those born in the year of the monkey are described as naturally quick-witted and are problem solvers much like the intelligent animal.

StoneX Bullion.com is pleased to stock these exquisite gold coins, which are composed of ¼ oz of 99.99% fine Gold. They carry a face value of $25 AUD and are backed by the Australian government. The reverse side features a nimble monkey moving along branches of a blooming tree and the Chinese character '猴' which translates in English as ‘monkey’. It also features the inscription ‘Year of the Monkey’ as well as The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mint mark. The obverse side displays Ian Rank-Broadley likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the Gold purity and face value.
