The National Animal of China in the Finest Gold

Along with the dragon, the panda the probably the most famous animal of the People's Republic of China. Therefore, it is appropriate that precisely this animal is found on the reverse of the first Chinese investment coin. The China Panda gold coins are minted on high-quality discs made of 999 fine gold and were available in the denominations of 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, ¼ oz, ½ oz and 1 oz up until 2015. With the exception of some special editions in proof quality, as a rule the Gold Pandas are produced in mint condition. Proof issues in different and sometimes unusual denominations also appeared from 1984 to 1996. In contrast to this, the China Panda 5 oz gold and China Panda 1 kg gold coins have been issued at irregular intervals. The 5 oz variant is available in non-consecutive issues from 1987 to 2005, while the China Panda 1 kg gold coins were released in 1997, 1999 to 2002 and 2006. These coins are traded on the market as rare special coins. From 2016, the China Panda gold coins are no longer to be issued in fine ounces, but rather in grams and kilograms without exception. Here, Gold Pandas are available in the denominations of 1 g, 3 g, 8 g, 15 g, 30 g, 50 g, 100 g, 150 g and 1 kg.

30 g China Panda Gold Coin 2016 - Motif and Design

For many adults and children, the panda is the epitome of the clumsy and funny cuddly companion. But many are not aware that this cute companion is increasingly threatened with extinction. Because the metropolitan areas of central China are spreading out exponentially, the bears are increasingly being forced out of their natural habitat to higher regions, where the conditions are not really appropriate for their survival. The once huge population of these animals is currently estimated at approximately 2,000. Scientists and researchers are therefore keen to study the behaviour and habitats of these cuddly pawed animals in more detail in order to ensure their survival and have already recorded their first successes. The China Panda gold coins are dedicated to these wonderful animals every year with changing motifs. In 2016, the motif side of the 30 g China Panda Gold Coin 2016 shows a single panda bear clinging to a thick branch with its large paws. In the background, the main source of food for the bear can also be seen: Individual bamboo branches and leaves form an almost ornamental background. To the right of the bear, the nominal value of 500 Yuan is stated, while below the image the coin weight of "30 g", the coin material "AU" for Aurum (lat. gold) as well as the fine content of "999" are embossed. The front shows part of the famous Tiantán, also called the Temple of Heaven. The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests pagoda is the epitome of traditional Chinese architecture. The lettering on the tree in Han script states the issuing country, namely the "PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA", while the year of issue "2016" can be seen at the lower edge of the image. In contrast to the back, the motif on the front remains the same every year.
