In 2016, the widely popular Gold Panda series converted to the metric system to suit the international appeal of the coins.. The 1/2 oz Gold Panda was replaced with the 15 gram Gold Panda, still containing .999 fine Gold.
Originally, the Gold Panda coins were first minted in 1982 as 1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz and 1/10oz coins. The following year the 1/20oz coin was introduced into the series and some years the series also includes the 5oz and 12oz Gold coins. Futhermore, each year sees a varying design to the coin making it high sought after by investors and collectors. It was only in the 2002 that the design stayed the same as the previous year. This caused a minor upraor with collectors, causing the annual design changes to be resumed in 2003.
