The 2016 edition of the British investment coin again bears the portrait of Britannia introduced in 2012. Even at the time of the Roman occupation, Britannia was the protective goddess of the British Isles. In the course of the development of the national state in the 17th century, Britannia was rediscovered as the embodiment of the British nation. With her storm-lashed robe, helmet, trident and shield, Britannia symbolises the independence and bravery of the United Kingdom.
The fifth official portrait of the Queen was used for the first time on the value side of this coin. The official coin portrait is only changed every ten to twelve years or so, most recently in 1998. Thanks to its famous namesake and the high fine content of 999.9/1000, next to the sovereign, Britannia is one of the most popular coins in the United Kingdom today. It is available in denominations of 1 ounce gold and 1 ounce silver from our online shop. In Great Britain, the Britannia is CGT exempt.
