Details of the reverse design

Britannia is an elegant and instantly recognisable figure, a proud warrior which first appeared on Roman coins more than 2000 years ago

Here, Britannia is standing upon the rocks in a long flowing robe, with shield, trident and olive branch in hand. Britannia stands proud before the ocean and is surrounded by inscriptions bearing her name, year of mintage, weight and purity.

Did you know? The Britannia gold coin was first introduced in 1987 as the Royal Mint saw demand rise for an official UK bullion coin. Since 1987, the design of Philip Nathan features on the Britannia coins and has made Britannia the UK most iconic coin.

The design evolved over the years, reflecting on the changes of the nation, its resilience and its values. The Royal Mint is regarded as a master mint with over 1000 years of experience and this Britannia series shows the evidence of a high level of expertise.

The portrait of King Charles III

King Charles's portrait is the first coin design undertaken by Martin Jennings. He is best known for his public sculptures which include the poet John Betjeman, in St Pancras Station in London, and Philip Larkin in Hull. He used photographs to come up with the design, rather than the King sitting for a specific portrait. King Charles is said to be very pleased with the end result.

The coins follow centuries of tradition with the monarch now facing left - the opposite way to his predecessor, Queen Elizabeth II. Another characteristic is that as with previous British kings, and unlike the Queen, he wears no crown.

The inscriptions read CHARLES III • D • G • REX • F • D • 100 pounds • 2023

Each coin weighs 1 Troy Ounce and is 999.9 Fine Gold with the denomination of 100 pounds.

By investing in this beautiful Britannia coin, 2023 version featuring King Charles III’s portrait, you will own a piece of British history. The 1oz Gold coin 2023 has a limited production run. It is now on sale on StoneX Bullion! Do not miss out!
