Don’t miss out on purchasing this 1 oz American Eagle coin minted at West Point, as the version 2022 contains a brand new design. After 35 years, the design was (finally!) updated and the new reverse features the detailed head of an American bald eagle in left-profile relief by Jennie Norris.
Norris' design was among a total of thirty-nine that were submitted to the Commission on Fine Arts in 2020 and the submissions were for both the Gold Eagle and the Silver Eagle reverses. Norris had a tremendous advantage given her experience as a raptor handler, which allowed her to see birds up close and which translates on the design by amazing details (especially the bird’s strong beak and dense plumage) . The design shows the bird's head and makes full use of the space within the rim inscriptions.
Above the eagle's head are the two statutory inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM," which is arched just inside the rim inscriptions, and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," which is horizontal. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed on the top half of the rim.The central devices are separated by each of the inscriptions on the bottom half by three stars. The legends on the bottom half of this face read, "50 DOLLARS" and "1 OZ. FINE GOLD." A single star separates them.
The obverse has been revised with additional detail from the original design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens to enhance this classic image that has been a part of American history since the early 1900s.Each 2022 American Gold Eagle’s obverse portrays an image of Liberty which was first used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle. The image is one of the first full-length figures of Liberty and is set in front-facing relief. Liberty is depicted with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.
The design field includes the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet in the background with sun rays and a ring of stars.Inscriptions are “LIBERTY” and “2022.”
In addition to redesigning the reverse and enhancing the design details on the obverse of the American Eagle Coins, the West Point Mint introduced anti-counterfeiting features that include a reeded edge variation on the one ounce coin.
To complement these new designs, each coin is encapsulated and placed in a black presentation case with the United States Mint seal on the lid.
Struck in 22-karat gold and exquisitely crafted, this elegant coin is sure to be cherished by collectors around the world. Now is your chance to acquire it on Coininvest!
