A Brilliant Uncirculated or 'BU' coin is one that has never been in circulation. As the term suggests, Brilliant Uncirculated coins retain the brilliance and lustre they had when they were fresh from the mint and are sometimes referred to as 'Mint State'. Brilliant Uncirculated coins are struck with hand finished and polished dies to create their consistent shine and, while they don't have the extra detail and level of finish of Proof Coins, BU coins are of a higher standard than Bullion and circulated coins.
