If two or more metals are fused together, an alloy is created. Some metal alloys are often used for the production of coins, to increase their resistance to abrasion. Although investment gold coins must have a minimum pure gold content of 900/1000, particularly in the case of older coins the remaining 100/1000 is composed of copper - a metal that is particularly resistant to scratches. One of the most famous investment coins in the world, the Krugerrand, is composed of 83.3/1000 copper.
