Kookaburra Gold Coin Characteristics

The Discover Australia series was an idea that started in 2006 and in 2012 the Perth Mint issued 5 gold coins in proof quality and among them is the Kookaburra gold coin. The idea behind these five coins, which were also issued in silver a month prior to the gold collection, is to engrave in the most sought after precious metal, meaning gold, part of the diversity of animals found throughout the Australian territory.

Australia is a country with vast natural landscapes so it chose five animals that are representative for this continent and decided to include them into a series dedicated to them. Besides the Kookaburra gold coin were also issued coins featuring a goanna, a red kangaroo, a whale shark, and a green and gold bell frog.

The Perth Mint is famous all over the world for its exquisite quality therefore the Kookaburra gold coin was manufactured from 99.99% pure gold or 24 carats gold. The coin displayed on our website weighs 1/2 troy ounces of gold (15.55 grams), the biggest size in which the coin was issued. Other sizes available are the 1/10 oz. and the 1/25 oz.

Kookaburra Gold Coin Design

When it comes to presenting the obverse of the Kookaburra gold coin, there is not much to be said because we are talking about a classical depiction found on most of the Australian gold coins. It is an engraver realized by Ian Rank-Broadley depicting the right facing portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Besides the name of the Queen inscribed on the obverse, other inscriptions on Kookaburra gold coin are the face value 50 DOLLARS and the country issuing the coin AUSTRALIA.

The reverse of the Discover Australia series in proof quality illustrates the respective animals in their natural habitat therefore we have a beautiful design of the Kookaburra, which is a bird famous for its call that resembles to a human laughter. The reverse of the Kookaburra gold coin has the following inscriptions: DISCOVER AUSTRALIA, 2012 KOOKABURRA, 1/2oz 9999 GOLD. The Perth Mint is remembered through the inscribed letter P.

Kookaburra Gold Coin Investment

When people think at the Discover Australia series, which includes the Kookaburra gold coin, they think first at quality. By investing into one of these gold coins in proof quality or maybe into all, investors will be the fortunate owners of pure gold. Since the price of gold increase, this Discover Australia coin is very valuable.

Besides that, the Kookaburra gold coin is characterized by scarcity which automatically means that it will be a very profitable asset when there will be none left in circulations. At that point demand will increase and the premium for this Australian coin will be the one bringing the profit to the investor.

Leaving aside its meaning for investors thanks to its bullion characteristics plus scarcity and high demand, the Kookaburra gold coin can also represent a beautiful, sophisticated, not at all ordinary, and exotic present. And it is a present that with time it increases its value.

The Kookaburra gold coin is legal tender in Australia under the Currency Act 1965 and is tradable on our website.
